MANDI:
The legacy of six-time Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh was honoured once again on Monday (November 17, 2025) as his family and supporters gathered for the installation of his another statue, this time in Rohru, the region he nurtured for decades.
Unlike the grand ceremony in Shimla last month, which witnessed the presence of top national Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, the event in Rohru was a more intimate yet deeply emotional occasion. It was attended by Virbhadra’s wife and former MP Pratibha Singh, his son Vikramaditya Singh and close family members, alongside a large number of local residents.
Vikramaditya’s heartfelt tribute
Following the unveiling, Vikramaditya shared an emotional post, describing the moment as “one of deep pride and overwhelmingly sentimental”. He wrote that watching his father’s presence “immortalised on this land” was a moment of profound personal significance.
He recalled how Virbhadra Singh transformed Rohru through visionary development in roads, schools, hospitals, irrigation networks, drinking water schemes and modern agriculture. The post highlighted the former Chief Minister’s unwavering belief that even the remotest hill villages deserved equal development and dignity.
Vikramaditya noted that many of the institutions, facilities and opportunities available today, especially in the field of women empowerment, girls’ education, youth employment and welfare of weaker sections, stand as living evidence of his father’s lifelong service.
Leader remembered as ‘Vikas Purush’
Locals turned out in large numbers to pay homage to the leader they continue to revere as the “Vikas Purush” of the region. The ceremony concluded with a traditional dham (community feast), symbolising gratitude and collective memory.
Calling his father the “architect of modern Himachal”, Vikramaditya wrote that the statue would serve as a pillar of inspiration for future generations, reminding them of Virbhadra Singh’s principles of duty, humility and service to the people.
“His values live in every road, every school, every field in Rohru. His blessings continue to guide us,” he said.
With today’s unveiling, Rohru becomes the second place within a month to permanently honour Virbhadra Singh, reflecting the enduring bond between the late leader and the people who continue to cherish his legacy.
