DHARAMSHALA: A meeting of the Himachal Pradesh cabinet has been scheduled in Dharamshala on Wednesday (December 20, 2023), likely to be held after the winter session proceedings for the day conclude.

The meeting will be presided over by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Though the agenda for the meeting hasn’t revealed yet, significant decisions could be taken as the Congress regime would now be looking to gird up its loins ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to take place in April-May next year.

The cabinet could decide upon implementing its pre-poll guarantee of providing Rs 1,500 per month to women aged 18 years and above. The Sukhu government had at an earlier cabinet meeting announced that the government would start giving Rs 1,500 every month to all the women above 18 years of age in Lahaul-Spiti district beginning January 1. “This grant will be gradually provided to all women across the state,” he had said.

The CM had said that the Congress government had initiated the process to provide Rs 1,500 per month to all women aged 18 to 60. “However, the natural disasters in the form of floods and landslides posed significant challenges. Starting January 1, 2024, women in Lahaul and Spiti district will receive Rs 1,500 per month. Furthermore, the 2.37 lakh women across the state currently receiving a pension of Rs 1,100 per month will see an increase to Rs 1,500 beginning the next fiscal year. Additionally, the government will extend support for the higher education of widows’ children, commencing from the upcoming fiscal year,” he had declared.
