Dharamshala:

In a landmark step to boost tourism in the Kangra Valley, the 14th Dalai Lama on Friday inaugurated the official tourism portal VisitDharamshala.com at his residence in McLeodganj. The initiative, led by the Hotel and Restaurant Association, Dharamshala, aims to showcase the hill town as a blend of spirituality, sustainability and Himalayan warmth.

Present at the launch were Ashwani Bamba, president of the association, Onkar Nehria, its chairman, District Tourism Officer Vinay Dhiman, members of the association’s executive committee, as well as local business owners, adventure operators, representatives of Waste Warriors and prominent citizens.

Extending his blessings, the Dalai Lama lauded the effort, saying he was pleased to see Dharamshala being promoted as a place of peace, compassion and coexistence. “Such initiatives can inspire travelers to appreciate not only the beauty of the Himalayas but also the deeper human and cultural values of this region,” he said.

One-stop guide for travellers

The newly launched VisitDharamshala.com serves as a comprehensive travel platform offering visitors information on local attractions, adventure activities, festivals, cuisine, accommodation and cultural heritage. The portal also provides real-time weather updates and information on ongoing events, ensuring safety and convenience for tourists.

“This platform reflects our collective vision to showcase Dharamshala to the world — not just as a tourist destination, but as a soulful experience blending spirituality, sustainability, and the warmth of the Himalayas,” said Ashwani Bamba, president of the association.

Focus on quality, culture, community empowerment

Only verified hotels, guesthouses and service providers will be listed on the website to maintain transparency, quality, and trust among visitors. The Association also plans to highlight local art, Himachali cuisine, traditional crafts and eco-friendly tourism practices, thereby creating new livelihood opportunities for local communities.

To widen Dharamshala’s reach, the Association will professionally promote the portal across digital and social platforms. A group of travel influencers from across India has been invited later this month to explore and share Dharamshala’s experiences through VisitDharamshala.com.
