Solan:
In a tragic incident, a four-year-old girl studying in the nursery class at Shaheed Bhagat Singh School in Dabhota, under the Nalagarh subdivision of Solan district in Himachal Pradesh, d*ied after accidentally falling into an open septic tank on Thursday.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 1 pm when a school staff member was informed that a child had fallen into the tank located near the toilet block.
The staff rushed to the spot and pulled the child out, but she was already dead. The victim was identified as Manjeet Kaur, daughter of Jitendra Singh, a resident of Dabhota.
Incident came to light after an hour
Preliminary investigations suggest that the septic tank lid was left open and the child may have gone to the toilet when she accidentally slipped into it.
Shockingly, school authorities reportedly did not notice her absence for nearly an hour, and no one attempted to search for her during that time.
Outrage among locals
Police said the girl’s body was sent to Nalagarh Civil Hospital and would be taken to IGMC-Shimla for post-mortem examination on Friday.
ASP Ashok Verma confirmed that the initial probe revealed negligence on part of the school management.
“The septic tank was uncovered, which directly led to the accident. We have registered a case under Sections 125 and 106 for negligence against the school administration, and further investigation is underway,” he said.
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who have demanded strict action against the school authorities for failing to ensure basic safety measures for children.
