Indian delegation of social workers showcases responsible business, human rights model at UN event in Bangkok

A nine-member delegation from the Association of Professional Social Workers and Development Practitioners (APSWDP) from India participated in the United Nations Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum-2025 in Thailand from September 16 to 19.


The event was organised at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok.


The delegation was engaged in high-level discussions, thematic sessions and capacity-building dialogues on various issues, including corporate accountability, labour rights, climate justice, inclusive development and the role of social workers in promoting responsible business practices.


Besides, the APSWDP held a joint session with OXFAM, Sal Forest, MAP Foundation, Raks Thai, HRDF and Respons Bank, which was co-organised by the Eco Factor Foundation and Crime Control and Social Development Organisation. The APSWDP made a presentation on the topic “Samta Nyay Kendra — The Legal Aid Clinic for the Transgender Community” under the theme “Beyond Crisis: Innovating Community-Led Approaches for Remedy and Corporate Accountability”.


The participation underscored the Association’s commitment to amplifying the voices of the marginalised communities and ensuring that business and human rights agendas are aligned with the principles of social justice, equity and sustainable development.


The forum welcomed participants, including diplomats, academicians, organisations and civil society leaders. APSWDP delegates, including Dr Sumit Arora, Advocate Akash Yadav, Karamveer Singh, Dr Rajeev Kumar, Deepak Yadav, Dr Radhika Dev Varma, Kavita Rawat, Saurab Parkash and Ankita Rani, participated in the event.


Speaking on the occasion, Dr Vivek Trivedi, Founder and Principal Adviser, APSWDP, highlighted the importance of integrating professional social work perspectives into global dialogues on business and human rights, stressing that people-centred approaches are essential to achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs).


He further mentioned that the presence of APSWDP at the forum marks a significant step in strengthening India’s contribution to the global movement for responsible business conduct and reflects the association’s dedication to fostering cross-border collaboration, advocacy and knowledge exchange.
