The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib, in Sirmaur district has donated Rs 21 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to aid ongoing rescue and relief efforts in Himachal Pradesh. The donation comes at a time when the state is reeling under one of the most destructive monsoon seasons in recent years.
The cheque was formally presented to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday (September 3, 2025) by Deputy Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, Vinay Kumar, at a brief ceremony in Shimla. Sardar Jagjit Singh, vice-president of The Kalgidhar Trust, was also present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude and said that such contributions greatly strengthen the government’s relief operations.
Monsoon mayhem: 341 lives lost, crores in damage
Since the onset of the monsoon on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has witnessed large-scale destruction due to incessant rainfall, flashfloods, landslides and cloudbursts. According to official figures, 341 people have lost their lives, including 159 in road accidents, and 389 others have been injured. As many as 41 people are still missing.
The property loss in the state so far amounts to over Rs 3,500 crore. A total of 4,983 homes and shops have been damaged or destroyed. Additionally, 4,008 cowsheds have been affected and 1,912 livestock animals have perished.
Schools closed, roads blocked, services crippled
As rain continues to lash several districts, the state remains on high alert. On Wednesday morning, seven national highways and 1,162 roads were closed across the state. Rural areas are particularly hard-hit, with 2,477 power transformers and 720 water supply schemes currently non-functional.
Educational institutions were ordered shut on Wednesday in Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kangra, Bilaspur, Kullu and parts of Mandi and Una districts due to safety concerns. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued further rain alerts, warning of more disruptions.
