Dalhousie
Dalhousie, the picturesque hill town in Himachal Pradesh, witnessed a rare and alarming cloudburst near Karenlu Nala—just 6 kilometers from Gandhi Chowk—following three consecutive days of heavy rainfall. While no casualties were reported, the incident caused significant damage to property and infrastructure, leaving local residents shaken and daily life severely disrupted.
According to SDM Anil Bhardwaj, several roads in the Dalhousie subdivision remain blocked, and multiple homes have developed cracks due to the intense downpour. Two cars, two motorcycles, and a community hall were damaged in the cloudburst. In Tei village, three to four homes were affected, prompting the rescue of 12 residents who have been temporarily sheltered in a nearby school.

Local authorities sprang into action with commendable urgency. Civil and police administration, the municipal council, electricity board, public works department, and NH154A officials worked tirelessly through the night to restore essential services and clear blocked routes. SHO Jagbir Singh led efforts to reopen obstructed roads and kept both locals and tourists informed and alert throughout the day.
The municipal council swiftly cleared debris from Subhash Chowk and Balu Road, where fallen trees and landslides had blocked access. Drainage systems were managed to prevent water from entering homes. The electricity department ensured prompt restoration of power in affected areas, while NH154A SDO Pramod reopened the Chamba–Pathankot highway at eight blocked points.
Dalhousie residents expressed gratitude to the officials for their swift response but also voiced concern over the increasing frequency of extreme weather events. Once considered immune to such disasters, Dalhousie now faces the stark reality of nature’s unpredictability.
Locals and experts alike are calling for a shift from haphazard development to planned, sustainable growth. With its lush greenery and ecological significance, Dalhousie’s future depends on preserving its natural beauty through responsible planning and environmental stewardship.
