In a strong demonstration of community service and solidarity, the Rotary Club of Palampur dispatched a substantial consignment of relief material to the flood-ravaged Thunag region in Mandi district. The region has been grappling with the aftermath of devastating floods and landslides.
The relief vehicle was flagged off at 12 noon from Rotary Bhawan, Palampur, in the presence of dignitaries including former Chief Minister Mr. Shanta Kumar, former Assembly Speaker Mr. Brij Bihari Lal Butail, SDM Netra Maitri, DSP Lokendra Negi, Tehsildar Sajan Bagga, and members of the Rotary Club.
The relief supplies, valued at approximately ₹4 lakh, include:
- 504 blankets
- 270 tents
- 100 pairs of shoes
- Clothing for around 1,500 people
- Essential utensils
Rotary Club members Rtn. Ajay Sood, Rtn. Kapil Sood, Rtn. Rishi Sangray, and Rtn. Gopal Sood will personally hand over the aid to the local administration in Thunag, ensuring direct and timely delivery to the affected families.
Former Chief Minister Mr. Shanta Kumar lauded the effort, stating, “Service to humanity is the true religion, and Rotary has embodied this through action rooted in Swami Vivekananda’s ideals. This mission is a reflection of spiritual and civic responsibility.”
Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Brij Bihari Lal Butail praised Rotary’s unwavering presence in times of crisis, calling the club “a constant force in disaster relief—whether flood, earthquake, or pandemic.”
Rotary Club President Rtn. Ajay Sood and Secretary Rtn. Raghav Sharma reiterated the organization’s commitment to extending support in future emergencies as well.
Also present were several key Rotarians including Rtn. Kapil Sood (District 3070 Disaster Management Chairman), Rtn. Rajit Chitra (Club Disaster Management Chair), and numerous dedicated club members.
