Mandi : In a thrilling display of intellect and quick thinking, Mahraja Laxman Sen Memorial College (MLSM) Sundernagar emerged victorious in the Zonal Quiz Competition organized by the Department of State Taxes and Excise (Central Zone). The event, held at Vallabh Government College in Mandi, witnessed four finalist teams – Mandi, Kullu, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur – vying for the coveted trophy.
The journey to the Zonal competition began with district-level contests in November, where thirteen teams initially battled for supremacy. However, it was the duo of Kritika and Rohit, B.Com Final students from MLSM College, who outshone their counterparts and secured the first position for their zone.
Shiva College Bilaspur claimed the second position, while Government College Kullu secured the third spot in the intense competition. The winners, Kritika and Rohit, will be honored with a trophy and certificate by Kulbushan Gautam, Joint Commissioner State Taxes and Excise. Additionally, they will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000 on December 13, coinciding with the Founder’s Day celebration of the State Taxes and Excise Department in Shimla. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukkhu is scheduled to present the awards, recognizing the academic prowess displayed in the domain of state taxes and Goods and Service Tax (GST).
The quiz competition, organized by the excise department, aimed to foster a deeper understanding of state taxes and GST among college students, highlighting the importance of financial literacy and awareness in the academic sphere.
