DHARAMSHALA: After being cold-shouldered for long, Congress MLA from Dharamshala Sudhir Sharma has been assigned an important task by the party. He has found a place in the four-member committee constituted by the Congress for the successful organisation of its rally in Dharamshala on December 11 (2023) to mark one-year competition of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in power.
Sudhir has been struggling to ensure his dominance in the Himachal Congress ever since CM Sukhu took charge. The Dharamshala MLA’s name was struck off from the list of ministerial probables at the last minutes even as he was called to Shimla for the swearing-in.
The Congress is instead nurturing three young MLAs from Kangra district–Ashish Butail (Palampur), Raghubir Singh Bali (Nagrota Bagwan) and Sanjay Rattan (Jwalamukhi).
Sudhir is part of the committee, which will be headed by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi while Ratan and Shahpur MLA Kewal Pathania will be its other members. The committee will coordinate the arrangements for the event at the administrative level.
The state government has set a target of gathering a crowd of more than 30,000 for the programme. During the legislature party meeting held in Shimla recently, CM Sukhu had told all the MLAs to gather crowd from their constituencies. Among the MLAs, the biggest target will be for Dharamshala MLA Sudhir while the MLAs of Shahpur and Jwalamukhi have received instructions to bring more than 2,000 people each to the venue.
Arrangements will also be made to handle the crowd as per the weather. The committee will soon hold a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Kangra. The programme is being organised at the Police Ground in Dharamshala.
