Palampur: Four children sustained minor injuries when the school bus they were travelling in collided with a private bus belonging to Prem Bus Service Company in the Bhatu area of Palampur earlier on Thursday (June 5, 2025).
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the allegedly over-speeding private bus collided with the school bus on a narrow stretch of road.
Locals alleged that buses belonging to Prem Bus Service were notorious for their high-speed driving, often in a bid to reach their destinations faster. “As a result, such accidents are becoming alarmingly frequent in the region,” said Amit, a Palampur resident.
Concerns were not limited to private bus drivers. Residents pointed out that school bus drivers, too, often drove recklessly, seemingly ignoring the responsibility of transporting children safely. “Many school bus drivers do not take their duty seriously. They drive at unsafe speeds, putting children’s lives at risk,” said a local parent.
Local residents are now urging the administration to take decisive action, demanding the use of speed-regulating technology to penalise the owners of over-speeding vehicles.
“There needs to be strong enforcement, both through law and technology, to make our roads safer. Children’s lives cannot be left to chance,” said a resident of Bhatu
