Shimla: A man and his son were killed while three others sustained injuries in an accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district on Wednesday.
The incident occurred near the Nursery area, approximately 4 km from Chopal town in Shimla.
According to the local authorities, a car carrying five persons veered off the road and met with an accident. Two of the passengers died on the spot, while the remaining three were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Chopal for treatment.
Among the injured, one woman sustained serious injuries and was referred to IGMC-Shimla for advanced care.
The deceased have been identified as Ramlal (55), son of Sant Ram, and his son Deepak (28), both residents of Shilli village under Pulbahal post office of Chopal tehsil.
The injured include Suman Devi (50), wife of Ramlal; Rajesh Sharma (28), son of Ratiya Ram from Thana Dhar village of Bhuika post office under Rajgarh tehsil of Sirmaur district; and Pankaj Sharma (25), son of Jai Prakash from Dhaneshlar village, Sanoara post office, also in Rajgarh tehsil.
Suman Devi, who was critically injured, has been shifted to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla after initial treatment. It was confirmed that three of the occupants belonged to the same family, with the father and son tragically losing their lives in the crash.
Police were quick to arrive at the scene following the accident and have taken custody of the bodies for post-mortem. Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle was en route from Matol village to Pulbahal when it lost control near the Nursery area in Chopal.
The local administration has announced an immediate relief of Rs 25,000 each to the families of the deceased and Rs 10,000 each for the injured.
