A Haryana Police head constable was arrested in Solan town of Himachal Pradesh with massive 157 grams of chitta (adulterated form of heroin), exposing alleged police involvement in drug trafficking.
The accused, identified as Pradeep Kumar, was posted in Kaithal district of Haryana and was arrested near Dhawari Diwar on April 2 while in uniform.
Tip-off leads to narcotics bust
The arrest came after the Solan police received a tip-off about a drug consignment being transported in the area.
Acting swiftly, a team intercepted Kumar, who was accompanied by another suspect currently on police remand. Investigations revealed that Kumar had been absent from duty in Haryana, raising suspicions.
Haryana Police suspend accused, probe underway
Following the arrest, the Haryana Police have suspended Kumar, while the Solan police are investigating the drug supply chain.
Authorities suspect Kumar’s involvement in a larger narcotics network and are tracking the main supplier. Solan SP Gaurav Singh confirmed the probe, stating, “We are interrogating the accused to determine the source and intended destination of the heroin.”
Case gains traction after social media outcry
The matter came to light after social media discussions in Haryana prompted scrutiny. The police had initially kept the arrest under wraps, but growing public pressure forced officials to acknowledge the case.
Sources said Kumar may have been operating the racket while on duty. While the Solan police remain cautious in disclosing details, the arrest has raised serious concerns about police personnel engaging in drug peddling.
