On Thursday Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s visit to Dari ground for rally here, BJP workers and members of the Central University Committee created significant disruption, leading to a change in the CM’s convoy route.
During the event, BJP workers, along with members of the Central University Committee, vehemently protested against the state government. The protesters, who were adamant about reaching the CM’s venue, were stopped by police personnel on the road. Despite the barricades, a few BJP workers managed to reach the event site and launched a strong protest. At the venue, they chanted slogans against CM Sukhu and staged a sit-in.
The core issue raised by the BJP workers was the alleged discriminatory treatment towards Dharamsala and the non-release of ₹30 crore for the construction of the Central University campus. The protesters accused the state government of withholding the funds, which has caused a delay in the construction of the university campus in Dharamsala. The funds, according to BJP workers, were crucial for the continuation of the project and its completion.
The protest also caused a significant traffic jam in the area as roads were blocked by the workers, further intensifying the situation. BJP members argued that while ₹30 crore had been sanctioned for the Central University in Dharamsala, the funds had not been released, halting progress. They claimed that the government had released funds for the university campus in Dehra, but Dharamsala was being neglected. The delay in releasing the ₹30 crore from the state’s side had also led to an inability to utilize the ₹300 crore allocated by the Central Government for the university’s infrastructure.
As the protest escalated, BJP workers planned to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, demanding immediate action. However, CM Sukhu’s convoy took an alternate route to avoid the blockade, leaving the protestors disappointed.
