Himachal Pradesh is bracing for intense weather conditions as heavy rain and snowfall alert has been issued for eight districts of the state over the next two days.
A western disturbance is expected to bring significant changes in weather patterns. According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, a yellow alert has been sounded for Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra and Lahaul-Spiti on January 5, predicting heavy rain, snowfall and strong winds.
An orange alert for heavy rain, snowfall and strong winds has been issued for January 6 in districts, including Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra and Chamba. Light rain and snowfall may occur in isolated parts of the state today as well.
The weather is likely to remain inclement in some areas on January 7, but from January 8 onwards, conditions are expected to clear across the state. Shimla experienced a mix of sunshine and light clouds on Saturday.
While no significant changes in minimum temperatures are forecast in the next 24 hours, a drop of 4-5°C is anticipated in mid and high-altitude areas over the next two-three days. The maximum temperatures, however, could plummet by 5-6°C, intensifying the chill.
Temperatures have already fallen across the region, with Lahaul-Spiti’s Keylong recording a low of -2.3°C and Tabo plunging to -8.4°C. Popular destinations like Shimla, Manali, and Dharamshala saw moderate lows, while areas such as Kufri and Dalhousie remained relatively warmer. Residents have been advised to stay cautious during the upcoming severe weather phase.
