Shimla:Ahead of Diwali, Himachal Pradesh employees and pensioners are a relieved lot as the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government has released their salaries and pensions three days in advance and also paid a 4 per cent dearness allowance (DA) installment, benefitting over two lakh people.
The festive allowance hike, effective from January 2023, has been warmly received by employees, who expressed gratitude for the timely decision during a meeting with Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena. However, along with their thanks, the employees have raised a critical demand: the settlement of 42 months of pending DA arrears.
During a meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat Services Federation, attended by representatives from five state secretariat federations, a memorandum was submitted to Chief Secretary Saxena calling for the release of DA arrears dating back to July 2022. This arrear request covers two distinct 21-month periods — one beginning in July 2022 and the other from January 2023.

The federation acknowledged the government’s gesture of disbursing October salaries and pensions in advance on October 28 in light of the Diwali season. Sanjeev Sharma, president of the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat Services Employees Federation, expressed appreciation for this timely release.
However, he highlighted the need for a separate notification to address the pending DA arrears from the specified periods, aligning with Chief Minister Sukhu’s earlier promise of additional financial support.
“We have submitted a memorandum to Chief Secretary Saxena demanding swift action on the DA arrears. Although we received the 4% DA increment with October and November salaries, we still await a resolution for the arrears backlog,” Sharma said, underscoring the employees’ anticipation for timely fulfilment of this outstanding benefit.
