The Sub-Divisional level 80th Independence Day celebrations were held with great fervour at Government Arya Degree College, Nurpur. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Arun Sharma unfurled the national flag and took the salute at the impressive march-past presented by contingents of Police, Home Guards, NCC, Scouts & Guides, and NSS. School children also presented vibrant cultural performances.
In his address, the SDM said that Independence Day is a day of pride and joy for every Indian, achieved through the struggle, sacrifice, and dedication of countless freedom fighters and martyrs. He emphasized that freedom is not only about living independently but also about fulfilling responsibilities towards the nation and society. He urged citizens to strengthen unity, integrity, and social harmony by discharging their duties sincerely.
Highlighting the priorities of the Sub-Divisional Administration, he assured that public service, development, and timely resolution of people’s issues remain the focus. He added that efforts will continue to ensure that government welfare schemes reach every eligible beneficiary and that developmental works gain momentum in the region.
On this occasion, the SDM honoured children who participated in the parade and cultural programmes. He also carried out a tree plantation drive in the college premises, urging everyone to plant more trees and ensure their regular care for environmental conservation.
The ceremony was attended by SP Nurpur Ilma Afroz, ASP D.C. Verma, DSP Chander Pal, Tehsildar Radhika Saini, Municipal Council Chairperson Neeti Mahajan, Vice-Chairperson Sonia Soga, SHO Surinder Kumar, NPS Managing Director Arvind Dogra, along with principals of various schools, students, parents, officers, employees, and a large number of local residents.
