MANDI: Binder Dev, a 35-year-old resident of Chailchowk in Mandi district, has been appointed as an Assistant Commandant in the Border Security Force (BSF). Binder, the son of a farmer, has achieved the milestone through sheer determination and consistent effort.
He began his career in 2013 as a Sub-Inspector in the BSF and was promoted to Inspector in 2019. However, Binder aspired to achieve more and decided to prepare for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) examination for the Assistant Commandant position. With rigorous preparation, he cleared the exam in his first attempt. Now, Binder is set to take charge as a gazetted officer in the BSF.
After the passing-out parade at the BSF Officer Training Academy in Tekanpur, Madhya Pradesh, on October 5, Binder will assume his duties as Assistant Commandant in Kohima, Nagaland. Alongside Binder, Arvind Pathania from Bilaspur has also been appointed to the same position. These two individuals are the only ones from Himachal Pradesh selected as Assistant Commandants in this year’s recruitment.

Early education at Jawahar Navodaya
Binder Dev’s journey is a testament to hard work and perseverance. His father, Durga Das, is a farmer who still engages in agriculture in their native village. Binder’s mother, Barfi Devi, passed away a few years ago.
His early education was at the local school in Chailchowk, followed by his selection to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) where he completed his schooling up to the 12th grade.
Later, he earned a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree in computer science from Himachal Pradesh University. Binder’s educational background laid a strong foundation for his successful career in the BSF.
Binder is married and his wife is a homemaker. The couple has two children. He credits his success to the unwavering support of his family, teachers and well-wishers.
Served in PM’s security for six years
In an illustrious chapter of his career, Binder Dev served for six years in the Special Protection Group (SPG), the elite security force responsible for protecting the Prime Minister. During this tenure, Binder played a key role in ensuring the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, both in India and abroad.
Whenever the Prime Minister visited Himachal Pradesh, Binder was often assigned as part of the security detail, ensuring the leader’s safety during these high-profile visits. His expertise and dedication to this critical responsibility earned him great respect in the security community.
