Jitesh Sharma’s 17-Year Pursuit: From Engineering Dropout to Central Police Force DSP

Jitesh Sharma, a 37-year-old from Ghaur village in the Rewalsar sub-tehsil of Mandi district, has become a symbol of perseverance and dedication, achieving his long-held dream of becoming a gazetted officer in the Central Police Force. Jitesh’s journey to this significant milestone began in 2006, when he decided to leave his engineering studies midway to follow his passion for serving in the police force.

From Engineering Aspirant to Police Officer

In 2006, Jitesh was studyingComputer science at Government Polytechinique College, Sundernagar . However, his heart was set on a different path. Driven by a desire to serve in the police force, Jitesh made the bold decision to leave his engineering course in the fourth semester to join the 3rd IRBn of Himachal Pradesh police  , as a wireless operator at Pandoh. For the next three and a half years, he diligently worked in this role while nurturing his dream of joining the Central Police Force.

In 2009, Jitesh cleared the competitive National Test for the Central Police Organization (CPO) and was selected as one of only nine candidates from across India to become a sub-inspector. Over the next 14 years, he worked his way up, first as a sub-inspector until 2016 and then as an inspector until 2023. Alongside his demanding job, Jitesh continued his education through correspondence, earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree and completing two one-year diploma courses in Cyber Crime and Information Security.

The Turning Point: Achieving the Rank of DSP

In June 2023, Jitesh finally cleared the examination for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), a significant achievement that culminated in his appointment as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The result was declared in October 2023, and after eight months of rigorous training at the Internal Security Academy in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, he officially took charge as a DSP on August 24, 2023. The moment was made even more special when his parents pinned his three-star insignia during a formal piping ceremony.

Balancing Family and Career

Jitesh’s journey to success was not without personal sacrifices. Married in 2011, he is the father of two children—a daughter aged 10 and a son aged 7. Despite the demands of family life, his wife, a homemaker, supported him in every step of his journey. The couple’s commitment to each other and their shared dream helped Jitesh overcome numerous challenges on his path to becoming a DSP.

A Family Legacy of Service

Coming from a family with a strong tradition of service, Jitesh’s achievements are deeply rooted in his upbringing. His father, Sukhram Sharma, is a retired army officer, while his brother, Khushal Sharma, is currently serving in the Indian Army. Inspired by his family’s dedication to the nation, Jitesh remained steadfast in his pursuit, even when faced with setbacks.

Recognitions and Honors

Jitesh’s service has not gone unnoticed. Over the years, he has been recognized with several awards, including the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Police Training in 2017, the Director General’s Commendation Disc in 2023, the Inspector General’s Commendation Letter in 2014, and multiple commendation letters from his superiors for his outstanding work and dedication to duty.

Jitesh’s story has inspired many in his community and beyond. His relatives, friends, and well-wishers, including local leaders and educators, have celebrated his achievement. Rising from a small village to become a gazetted officer, Jitesh Sharma’s journey from an engineering dropout to a DSP in the Central Police Force is a powerful testament to the power of determination, hard work, and unwavering focus on one’s goals.
