NEP: Centre-State Coordination Crucial for Advancing Digital Education in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla/Dharamshala: The successful implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Himachal Pradesh hinges on effective coordination between the state and central governments. Despite the potential benefits, the policy’s impact in the hill state has been slow, primarily due to gaps in collaboration between the two administrations.

A key initiative under NEP 2020 is the PM e-Vidya program, designed to unify digital, online, and on-air education efforts, ensuring multi-mode access to learning for nearly 25 crore school-going children across India. In Himachal Pradesh, this initiative plays a vital role in bridging the digital divide and delivering quality education to students in both urban and remote areas.

Through the PM e-Vidya initiative, the Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing (DIKSHA) platform has been instrumental in providing a vast array of e-content for school education. Additionally, the expansion of DTH TV channels under this program has made educational content available in multiple Indian languages, benefiting students from classes 1 to 12 in the state.

Himachal Pradesh has also embraced innovative approaches to extend its educational outreach, such as community radio broadcasts, podcasts, and specialized e-content tailored for visually and hearing-impaired students. The state’s participation in the Virtual Labs initiative further enhances students’ access to interactive science and mathematics labs, significantly enriching the learning experience for classes 6 to 12.

Moreover, the ICT and Digital Initiatives component of the Samagra Shiksha scheme has been a game-changer for Himachal Pradesh. Over the past five years, the state has established 995 ICT labs and 2,248 smart classrooms, transforming traditional teaching methods into dynamic, interactive learning environments. These advancements are particularly impactful in remote areas, where students now have access to modern educational tools and resources previously unavailable to them.

As Himachal Pradesh continues its journey with NEP 2020, the state is steadily positioning itself as a leader in digital education. However, the pace and effectiveness of these advancements depend largely on robust cooperation between the state and central governments. By ensuring seamless coordination, Himachal Pradesh can set a benchmark for other states in leveraging technology for educational excellence.
