The Himachal Pradesh weather department has issued a yellow alert warning for heavy rain, thunderstorm and lighting at isolated places in the state over the next five days.
According to a forecast by the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, the yellow alert on August 2 is for Una, Chamba and Kangra districts; on August 3 for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Kangra districts; on August 4 for Una, Bilaspur, Kangra and Mandi districts; on August 5 for Kangra district and on August 6 for Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts.
The rain is expected to be more widespread on August 3 and 4. The heavy rain can cause disruptions of essential services, including water and power supply, communications and related services and damage to fruit and standing crops, said the weather authorities.
Over the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain occurred at isolated places in the state. No large change in minimum and maximum temperatures was observed. At 8.30 am on Friday (August 2, 2024), the lowest temperature in the state was recorded at 12.5 degrees Celsius at Kukumseri in tribal Lahaul-Spiti district.
The highest temperature was 33.4 degrees Celsius at Dhaulakuan in Paonta Sahib subdivision of Sirmaur district. Over the past 24 hours, Kasol received 33 mm of rain, Seobagh 19 mm; Nadaun 7 mm, Keylong and Bilaspur 3 mm each, Manali and Chamba 2 mm each and Dharamshala 1 mm.
The disaster management authorities have advised the residents, tourists and other people visiting the state not to venture near water bodies as the water level could rise all of a sudden.
