The social organization Kala evam Lekhak Manch organized a solemn tribute ceremony at the Panchpula memorial of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’s uncle and freedom fighter Ajit Singh. The event honored the sacrifices of Ajit Singh and other national heroes who laid down their lives for India’s independence.
General Secretary Baldev Mohan Khosla recalled that Ajit Singh had come to Dalhousie for health recovery. On August 14, upon hearing the news of India’s independence on the radio, he passed away in joy. His last rites were performed in Dalhousie. For the past 26 years, the organization has been holding this annual ceremony on August 14 to remember his sacrifice and inspire the community.
This year’s program also paid special homage to the “Father of Punjabi Literature,” late Nanak Singh, whose patriotic writings continue to inspire generations. His grandson, former diplomat Navdeep Suri, attended as the chief guest and was warmly welcomed by the organization’s chief patron Dr. Captain G.S. Dhillon and Chairman Ashok Mahajan.
The ceremony featured heartfelt tributes at Ajit Singh’s memorial, patriotic songs by students of Dalhousie Public School, and a special song dedicated to Dalhousie. The event was conducted by General Secretary Baldev Khosla.
Chief Guest Navdeep Suri and Chairman Ashok Mahajan addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the role of literature in nation-building.
The program was attended by SDM Dalhousie Anil Bhardwaj, Tehsildar Ramesh Chauhan, Municipal Council President Vandana Chaddha, former MC President Manoj Chaddha, Hilltop School’s Sudhir and Poonam Dhawan, Sacred Heart School Sisters, retired Joint Secretary to the Government of India Kiran Chaddha, Nitin Mahajan, Karan Monga, Vinod Mahajan, Paramjit Singh, Colonel Kapila, Ashu Gandotra, and other dignitaries.
