Himachal weather: 2-day orange alert issued for very heavy rain in 4 districts

The Meteorological Centre at Shimla has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in several parts of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday (July 23, 2024), causing widespread concern.

An orange alert for heavy rain has been issued for four districts of Mandi, Sirmaur, Kangra and Chamba for July 23 and 24. An extended yellow alert has also been announced for heavy rain from July 24 to 27 in various regions of the state, with rain expected to continue until July 29.

Last night, significant rainfall was recorded across multiple locations: Kangra received 151.8 mm, Dharamshala 136.6 mm, Palampur 112.4 mm, Nagrota Surian 99.6 mm, Dhaula Kuan 82.5 mm, Jogindernagar 52.0 mm, Guler 46.4 mm, Sundernagar 44.7 mm, Ghamarur 35.2 mm and Kahu 33.5 mm.

A potential mild to moderate flood risk in catchment areas and surrounding regions of Kangra, Sirmaur and Shimla districts has been issued over the next 24 hours. Moderate rainfall is anticipated in many areas, with heavy to very heavy rain expected in isolated locations within Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur and Solan districts.

The minimum temperatures recorded in various places were: Shimla 18°C, Sundernagar 22.1°C, Bhuntar 21.5°C, Kalpa 14.5°C, Dharamshala 19°C, Una 24.2°C, Nahan 24.1°C, Keylong 13.1°C, Palampur 19°C, Solan 21.2°C, Manali 20.1°C, Kangra 21°C, Mandi 24.2°C, Bilaspur 25.4°C, Hamirpur 26.2°C, Chamba 23.6°C, Kufri 15.7°C, Kukumseri 10°C, Reckong Peo 18.8°C, Dhaula Kuan 25.1°C, Berthin 24.9°C, Kasauli 19°C, Paonta Sahib 24°C, Dehra Gopipur 27°C and Tabo 15.1°C.
