Boulders fall on moving HRTC bus on Manali-Shimla highway; 12 injured

MANDI: A bus of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) plying on the Manali-Shimla National Highway was severely damaged after being hit by boulders trolled down from an adjoining roadside amid heavy rain.
According to information, the mishap occurred on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday (July 20-21, 2024) around 11 pm near 9 Miles in Mandi, which is at some distance from Pandoh. The boulders completely damaged the front portion of the bus, which was on its way from Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti to Shimla.
There were 12 passengers in the bus at the time of the mishap, all of whom suffered major injuries. However, the conductor and a few passengers suffered minor injuries.
The bus, with registration number HP42-3164, is part of the HRTC’s Keylong depot. Surendra Singh was driving the bus while Sahil was the conductor.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the spot, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
