Himachal weather: Landslide blocks NH-5 near Powari in Kinnaur after heavy rain; yellow alert issued for next 5 days

Several parts of Himachal Pradesh have been lashed by heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, causing significant disruptions. The town of Dharamsala recorded an impressive 142.8 mm of rainfall, highlighting the intensity of the downpour.
In Kinnaur district, a landslide near Powari has blocked a key highway, forcing residents and travellers to navigate on foot. Road restoration efforts are learnt to be currently underway.
Travel on National Highway-5 in Nigulsari has become risky due to the heavy rain, prompting caution among drivers and commuters. Other areas experiencing significant rainfall include Gamrur with 53 mm, Baijnath with 36 mm, Olinda with 32.2 mm, Palampur with 22.4 mm and Kangra with 19.5 mm.
The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain across many parts of the state for the next five days, with the adverse weather expected to continue until July 24. Districts under alert include Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur. Additionally, Shimla is experiencing dense fog.
The authorities have advised the residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions during this period of intense rainfall. The minimum temperatures over the past 24 hours in various places in the state are: Shimla at 17.8°C, Sundernagar 23.2°C, Bhuntar 22.2°C, Kalpa 13.6°C, Dharamshala 18°C, Una 20.8°C, Nahan 23.5°C, Keylong 12°C, Palampur 18.5°C, Solan 21.2°C, Manali 17.4°C, Kangra 21°C, Mandi 23.7°C, Bilaspur 26.1°C, Hamirpur 23.9°C, Chamba 23.8°C, Dalhousie 15.4°C, Kufri 16°C, Kukumseri 10.4°C, Narkanda 14.2°C, Reckong Peo 18.2°C, Samdo at 16.0°C and Kasauli at 19.4°C.
