Himachal weather: 36 roads blocked after heavy rain, orange alert for these districts today

Himachal Pradesh experienced widespread rainfall on Monday (July 1, 2024) night, with inclement weather conditions prevailing in several parts, including Shimla.

Light rain was recorded in Shimla and the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has issued an orange alert for heavy rain across several districts on Tuesday. A yellow alert is in effect from July 3 to 8.

By 10 am on Tuesday morning, landslides had blocked 36 roads in various districts and 169 power transformers were out of service. Una, Mandi and Chamba districts were the most affected, with 77, 68 and 24 power transformers down, respectively.

Heavy rain was reported in Dharamshala, Una, Kangra and Mandi districts last night. The rainfall measurements in millimetres were: Kangra 75.6, BBMB 77.4, Malron 65, Raipur Maidan 51.4, Olinda 50, Nayana Devi 44.6, Berthin 41.6, Nangal Dam 38.2 and Dharamshala 30.5.

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain in the districts of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Solan and Sirmaur. A yellow alert is in place for Chamba, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla. No alerts have been issued for Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.

The residents and tourists have been advised to stay away from rivers and canals during the rainy season.
