Heavy Snowfall Alert: All Educational Institutions Closed in Lahaul-Spiti on January 28

Life in Himachal Pradesh’s snow-bound Lahaul-Spiti district has been severely affected due to continuous heavy snowfall, prompting the district administration to order the closure of all educational institutions as a precautionary measure. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy snowfall in the Lahaul and Udaipur sub-divisions over the next 24 hours.

Considering the risk posed by blocked roads, slippery conditions, and restricted movement, the district administration announced a half-day closure of educational institutions on Tuesday, followed by a complete shutdown on January 28. The decision has been taken in the interest of student safety and public welfare.

According to orders issued by Officiating Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kunika Ekers, all government and private schools, colleges, ITIs, polytechnic institutes, and anganwadi centres across the district were allowed to function only till noon on January 27. No academic activities will be conducted in any institution on Wednesday.

The administration has directed all concerned departments and heads of institutions to ensure strict compliance with the orders. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, remain alert, and strictly follow advisories issued by the weather department and disaster management authorities.

The situation is being closely monitored, and further decisions will be taken based on weather conditions and safety assessments.
