Amid an orange alert, snowfall has been experienced in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh while several other parts were lashed by rain.
A fresh spell of snow was reported in Lahaul valley and at the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang. The cold has intensified in Kullu, Manali and Lahaul due to continuous snowfall overnight.
The Kullu district administration has issued an alert, advising tourists not to travel towards the tunnel.
Adverse weather persists in the state capital Shimla, with light rain recorded. Fresh rain and snowfall have affected three national highways and 66 roads for traffic until 10 am on Monday. Additionally, 38 power transformers are impacted in the state.
The Meteorological Centre at Shimla has issued an orange alert for heavy rain, hailstorm and thunderstorm for many districts of the state on April 29, with a yellow alert for April 30. The adverse weather may persist in some places on May 1, while the entire state is expected to have clear weather on May 2 and 3. However, there is a possibility of rain in many parts on May 4 and 5 due to the latest western disturbance.
