Woman killed by nephew over land dispute in Himachal’s Hamirpur

In a shocking incident in Ward Number 7 (Seu) of Talai nagar panchayat of Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh, a land dispute escalated into violence, resulting in the death of a woman.

A case has been registered at the Talai police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on the statement of the deceased woman’s son-in-law. The accused nephew and his father have been arrested.

According to the statement given to the police by Jeevan Kumar, a resident of Chhaporoh village under Harsaur post office under Barsar tehsil of Hamirpur, he had come to his in-laws’ house in Talai on Saturday.

In the evening, his wife Veena Devi, sister-in-law Bhutto Devi and mother-in-law Roshni Devi were cleaning the weeds along the boundary wall of their house. During this time, Prakash Chand, Jeevan Kumar’s uncle-in-law, started pelting stones at them. As the women screamed for help, Prakash Chand’s son Dalip Singh attacked Roshni Devi with an iron rod, striking her on the head.

Roshni Devi fell unconscious on the ground. Jeevan Kumar immediately took the injured women to Barthin hospital for treatment where the doctor declared her dead upon arrival.

DSP Madan Dhiman confirmed the arrests of the accused and stated that further action was being taken in this case. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the severe consequences of unresolved land disputes.
