Mandi: In a proactive measure to manage sediment and silt accumulation, the Larji Dam authorities announced the opening of all gates from 6 AM on June 30 until 6 AM on July 1. This action aims to mitigate potential risks of rising water levels in the Beas River.

SDM Mandi Sadar, Omkant Thakur, emphasized the importance of this decision, urging residents and tourists to avoid the riverbanks during this period for their safety. The Larji hydroelectric project management is undertaking this operation to clear sediment, ensuring optimal functionality.

Thakur further highlighted the department’s preparedness for monsoon challenges, citing past incidents of significant damage in Mandi district. To enhance disaster response, wireless communication tools and satellite phones will be utilized to facilitate immediate assistance to affected communities.

Local Panchayati Raj representatives were urged to disseminate precautionary advisories, underscoring the importance of public awareness to prevent any potential loss of life or property.

A rain alert has been issued for the next four days in Himachal. This time, government officials are ensuring every arrangement is in place to deal with flood-like situations in advance, given the experiences of the previous year.
