In his latest “Mann Ki Baat” broadcast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the renowned Bhuttico industry of Kullu, much to the delight of the residents and leaders of Himachal Pradesh. The mention has been hailed as a significant boost for the state’s traditional handloom sector, which has long been a source of pride and economic sustenance.
The Prime Minister’s acknowledgment of Bhuttico underscores the society’s achievements, which include a multi-crore turnover and a global reputation for excellence in woolen clothing and shawls. This recognition is expected to further elevate the society’s profile and drive greater interest in Himachal Pradesh’s handicraft traditions.
Apart from Bhuttico shawls and woolen clothes from Himachal Pradesh, PM Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat” highlighted the efforts of artisans from various regions of India, drawing attention to their contributions in popularising handloom products. He mentioned the Sambalpuri sarees of Odisha, Maheshwari sarees of Madhya Pradesh, Paithani sarees of Maharashtra, hand block prints of Vidarbha, Kani shawls of Jammu & Kashmir and.
Established in 1944 with just 12 members and a modest capital of Rs 23, the Bhuttico Society has grown tremendously, now employing around a thousand weavers and gaining international acclaim for its high-quality handloom products.
As National Handloom Day approaches on August 7, Modi’s remarks have added momentum to the celebrations, with an emphasis on the success and growing popularity of handloom products. He noted that many private companies are now promoting handloom products and sustainable fashion through advanced technologies like AI, which further enhances their reach and appeal.

Among those present were state vice-president Sanjeev Katwal, state media incharge Karan Nanda, Kisan Morcha state president Sanjeev Deshta and former councillor Puran Chand.
