Operation Sindoor targets nine terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK
Dharamshala:
In a swift and carefully calibrated response to the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the early hours of Wednesday (May 7, 2025), striking nine terrorist infrastructure sites deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK).
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the operation was designed to target the root of cross-border terrorism while avoiding escalation.
Surgical blow without escalation
The Defence Ministry stressed that no Pakistani military installations were targeted in the strikes, highlighting India’s intent to send a strong message without triggering a wider conflict.
“This was a focused counter-terror operation. It demonstrates India’s resolve to bring perpetrators of terror to justice while avoiding unnecessary provocation,” a senior official said.
Sources said the mission was planned with utmost precision to ensure zero civilian casualties and avoid collateral damage. The strikes come just days after the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen lost their lives in a brutal ambush.
Tensions rise as Pakistan fires across LoC
Hours after the strikes, Pakistan violated the ceasefire along the Bhimber Gali sector in the Poonch-Rajouri belt, firing artillery shells.
“The Indian Army is responding in a calibrated and measured manner,” said a Defence Ministry spokesperson.
Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) chief Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed the air strikes and said Islamabad was assessing the damage, vowing a response.
India reaches out to allies
In the wake of the military action, India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval spoke to US NSA and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, briefing them about the operation and India’s stance.
Reacting to rising tensions, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged both India and Pakistan to exercise maximum military restraint, according to his spokesperson.
A detailed briefing on the scope and impact of Operation Sindoor is expected later today, with the situation on the Line of Control being closely watched by domestic and international stakeholders alike.
