GST North Zone XI-Kangra triumphs in Taxation & Finance Cricket Premier League

GST North Zone XI Kangra clinched the title in the Taxation and Finance Premier League 2024, organised by the ICAI Himachal Pradesh branch.
The much-anticipated final match took place at the scenic Amatar Cricket Ground at Nadaun in Hamirpur where GST North Zone XI squared off against CA XI.

GST North Zone XI sets challenging target

Opting to bat first, GST North Zone XI posted a formidable score of 158/7 in 20 overs. Neeraj Kumar led the charge with an outstanding knock of 74 runs off 53 balls, which included 5 boundaries and 3 sixes.
Sushant Kapil of CA XI was the standout bowler, claiming 4 wickets, with Munish Gupta also contributing by picking up 2 vital wickets.
In reply, CA XI fought valiantly but ultimately fell short, finishing their innings at 144/6 in 20 overs. Praveen Jaswal top-scored with 37 runs, supported by Hanish Sharma (32 runs) and Gaurav Thakur (20 runs).
Manoj from GST North Zone XI played a key role in restricting CA XI, taking 2 wickets and ensuring his team’s victory.

Neeraj Kumar Named Player of the Match

Neeraj Kumar’s brilliant performance with the bat earned him the Player of the Match award, while Sushant Kapil’s all-round consistency throughout the league earned him the coveted Player of the Tournament title.
The chief guest for the occasion, Pradeep Sharma, Joint Commissioner of State Taxes & Excise, Shimla, presented the trophies to the winners and mementos to all participants.
He lauded the ICAI Himachal Pradesh Branch for organising such a unique and engaging event, emphasising the importance of fostering camaraderie and collaboration through such initiatives.

Memorable inaugural tournament

CA Naresh Vashisht, Chairman of the ICAI Himachal Pradesh Branch, expressed immense satisfaction in hosting the inaugural edition of the tournament.
He highlighted the event’s role in bringing together teams from the State Taxes & Excise Central Zone Mandi, State Taxes & Excise North Zone Kangra, Income Tax Department, State Bank of India, and Chartered Accountants. The tournament saw league matches played in Mandi, semifinals in Una, and the grand finale in Nadaun.

Fostering professional collaboration through sport

Beyond the thrilling cricket matches, the tournament provided a platform for inter-departmental collaboration, strengthening professional ties across various sectors.
The event was graced by distinguished officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Deputy Commissioner ST&E, Assistant Commissioner ST&E, Income Tax Officers, Inspectors, and Bank Officials, all of whom actively participated and contributed to the occasion’s success.
