Dharamshala IPL Matches in Limbo Amid Airspace Closure and Rising Tensions

Shimla: The picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala, known for its scenic backdrop of the Dhauladhar mountains, was set to host key Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 matches on May 8 and 11 this month. However, the recent escalation in India-Pakistan tensions has cast uncertainty over these fixtures.

Following India’s Operation Sindoor, which involved missile strikes on targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, several northern Indian airports have been temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure. This includes the Gaggal Airport in Dharamshala, leading to the suspension of all flight operations to and from the region.

The closure of the Dharamshala airport has raised concerns about the feasibility of conducting the upcoming IPL matches scheduled at the HPCA Stadium. The Punjab Kings were slated to play against the Delhi Capitals on May 8 and the Mumbai Indians on May 11 at this venue.

Airlines such as IndiGo and SpiceJet have issued advisories, confirming the suspension of flights to and from Dharamshala until further notice. Passengers are being urged to check their flight status and make necessary adjustments to their travel plans.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to release an official statement regarding the status of the Dharamshala matches. However, given the current airspace restrictions and logistical challenges, there is growing speculation that these fixtures may be relocated to alternative venues or rescheduled.

The situation remains fluid, with the safety of players, staff, and spectators being of paramount concern. Stakeholders and fans alike await further updates from the BCCI as developments unfold.
