Carpenter’s son Hans Raj emerges as Himachal’s rising star at Kho-Kho World Cup training camp

Hans Raj, the pride of Himachal Pradesh, has earned a prestigious spot among the 60 players selected nationwide for the Kho-Kho World Cup training camp.
A resident of Maloh village in the Sundernagar subdivision of Mandi district, Hans Raj is currently pursuing BA and is in his second year at Maharaja Laxman Das Memorial College. His journey from humble beginnings to representing the state and aiming for the Indian team is a testament to his grit and dedication.

Has captained Himachal team in multiple tournaments

Hans Raj has showcased his exceptional talent in kho-kho, captaining the Himachal team in multiple national tournaments. Now, he is poised to fulfill his dream of representing India in the world cup.
“Kho-kho has always been my passion and I have struggled tirelessly to reach this level. I hope to make Himachal and the country proud,” he shared with determination.
Belonging to a middle-class family, Hans Raj’s story is one of perseverance. His father Saju Ram works as a carpenter while his mother Tara Devi manages household chores and tends to livestock. Despite financial challenges, Hans Raj pursued his love for kho-kho, often borrowing funds to participate in tournaments.

Early beginnings and national achievements

Hans Raj’s journey began in the sixth grade, inspired by senior students and his physical education teacher Laxmi Dutt at Maloh School.
In 2012, as an eighth grader, he represented Mandi at the state level. His leadership milestones include leading the Himachal team at the 2017 National Games in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh; 2018 National Kho-Kho Games in Rajasthan; 2022 Senior National Games in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh and 2023 Senior National Games in Delhi.
Now, Hans Raj is training rigorously at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, vying for a place among the final 15 players for the Indian team. His daily routine includes early morning yoga, meditation and practice sessions twice a day.

Support and determination

Hans Raj expressed gratitude for the excellent facilities provided by the Kho-Kho Federation.
“For the first time, the accommodation and food arrangements are excellent,” he said. His parents remain his strongest pillars of support, offering constant encouragement and advice over the phone.

Bringing glory to Himachal

If selected for the Indian team, Hans Raj will bring immense pride to Himachal Pradesh. His journey is not just about personal achievement but also a source of inspiration for youth across the state.
Hans Raj’s story is a shining example of determination and passion, and his selection for the world cup will be a moment of pride for the entire nation.
