The Himachal Pradesh Police’s crackdown on the drug menace yielded significant results in Bilaspur district of the state where 6.64 grams of heroin (chitta) was seized from a truck (HP24C-4303) in Baghi Binola.
Two persons, including a serving policeman, were arrested and the truck was impounded.
The incident occurred late Thursday (January 2, 2025) night around 12.30 am during a routine patrol and checkpoint operation led by Investigating Officer Sandeep Kumar from the Sadar police station.
During the operation, two suspects — Kuldeep Kumar (35) and Vishal Thakur (32), both residents of Binola — were apprehended after heroin was discovered in their possession.

Policeman posted in Shimla

Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhawal confirmed the arrest of a police constable who was formerly stationed with the Vigilance Department in Bilaspur and is currently serving as a driver in Shimla.
Sources said the constable had evaded disciplinary action in previous incidents but was caught this time due to sustained surveillance.

Background of Himachal Police’s Anti-Chitta Campaign

The Himachal Pradesh Police have intensified their efforts to combat the rising threat of chitta, a synthetic drug wreaking havoc across the state.
Under a special operation, law enforcement agencies have been targeting suppliers, distributors and users of narcotics.
This includes community outreach programmes, surveillance of suspected individuals and the involvement of special task forces.
In recent years, the police have registered hundreds of cases and seized significant quantities of heroin and other drugs, sending a strong message against narcotics.
In the Bilaspur case, the police officials are investigating deeper links and networks to dismantle the supply chain.
