Shimla: To promote religious tourism, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced comprehensive beautification plans for the state’s iconic temples, including Baba Balak Nath, Mata Chintpurni, Shri Naina Devi and Jwalamukhi.
During a review meeting of the Language and Culture Department in Shimla on Monday, the Chief Minister revealed that master plans would be prepared to provide world-class facilities for devotees at these temple complexes.
“Our goal is to transform these sacred sites into global attractions, ensuring the Devbhoomi temples leave an indelible mark on the world map,” said CM Sukhu.
District-level festivals from next financial year
The Chief Minister also announced the introduction of district-level festivals from the upcoming financial year.
These festivals will prominently feature cultural evenings dedicated to local artistes. At least one-third of the total expenditure on cultural programmes will be allocated to local performers, ensuring their participation and financial support.
Support for artistes
Instructions were issued to standardize and rationalize the honorarium for artists participating in various cultural events. Himachal currently has 107 notified fairs, including 4 at the international level, 5 at the national level, 29 state-level, and 69 district-level fairs. The state government has allocated ₹1.10 crore for these fairs in the fiscal year 2024-25.
The Chief Minister highlighted progress in the establishment of a digital museum at Bantony Castle in Shimla, which is expected to be completed this year.
Additionally, the government is working on developing the International Roerich Memorial Trust as a major tourist attraction and formalising the Shimla Winter Carnival to boost cultural tourism.
CM Sukhu emphasised that these measures aimed to preserve the state’s cultural heritage while fostering economic growth through enhanced tourism.
