Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and Pradesh Congress Committee president Pratibha Singh are set to travel to New Delhi on Tuesday (January 14, 2025) to attend the inauguration of the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) new national headquarters.
Several cabinet ministers and Congress MLAs from the state will also be part of the delegation. The new AICC headquarters, named Indira Gandhi Bhawan, is located at 9A Kotla Road and will be inaugurated on January 15 by Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party.
Historic shift in address for Congress
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will also be present at the ceremony, which marks a significant moment in the 139-year history of the Congress party.
The facility, described as state-of-the-art, represents a modern approach to administrative and strategic operations while upholding the legacy of stalwarts like Indira Gandhi, India’s first woman Prime Minister.
The new AICC headquarters, replacing the Congress’s home at 24 Akbar Road after five decades, represents a new era for the party. The foundation stone for the building was laid by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and then-Congress president Sonia Gandhi in December 2009.
After 15 years, the Congress is ready to begin its next chapter in a modern facility steeped in history and symbolism.
Sukhu to directly travel to Kangra from Delhi
Around 400 top Congress leaders, including members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) presidents, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leaders, Members of Parliament and AICC secretaries have been invited to the event.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, CM Sukhu will travel to Kangra from Delhi on January 15 or 16 to commence his district visit, which will continue until January 25. The state-level Statehood Day celebrations will take place in Baijnath, Kangra, on January 25, with CM Sukhu presiding over the event.
Following this, the Chief Minister will return to Shimla to attend the Republic Day celebrations at the historic Ridge on January 26.
