New Delhi: Soon after being appointed the Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, the BJP MLA from Shalimar Bagh and former Delhi Mayor, has sparked controversy by deleting several old tweets from her ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account.
These tweets, which were allegedly critical and controversial in nature regarding former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, have now resurfaced as screenshots being widely circulated on social media.
The BJP’s decision to appoint Rekha Gupta as the Chief Minister came 11 days after the Delhi Assembly election results were declared.

Viral screenshots spark political controversy
Following her appointment, several leaders from different political parties, including BJP allies and opposition members, extended their congratulations.
However, amidst the celebrations, Rekha Gupta’s social media activities drew sharp criticism, especially from leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Screenshots of her now-deleted tweets targeting Kejriwal are being widely shared online, with AAP leaders accusing her of attempting to erase her past statements.
The deleted tweets reportedly contained harsh remarks about Kejriwal’s governance, corruption allegations and policy decisions. Many social media users are now questioning her motives behind the deletions, with some arguing that they reveal a shift in her political stance after taking charge as CM.
Has risen to top post from student politics
Originally from Jind in Haryana, 50-year-old Rekha Gupta has been active in politics since her student years. A law graduate from Meerut, she began her political journey with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and has remained closely associated with the BJP.
Before her appointment as Chief Minister, she served as the Mayor of North Delhi and played a key role in BJP’s women’s wing. Rekha Gupta’s rise to power marks a historic moment for BJP as she is currently the only female Chief Minister in the party’s 21 state governments.
However, the controversy surrounding her old tweets has added a new layer of scrutiny to her leadership. Political analysts suggest that how she handles this issue may define the early phase of her tenure.
