The Himachal Pradesh BJP state media co-incharge Vishva Chakshu, an advocate, has launched a fierce attack on the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government, which celebrated its two-year tenure with a rally in Bilaspur’s Luhnu Ground on Wednesday (December 11, 2024).
Criticising the Congress government’s performance, Chakshu accused it of leading the state to the brink of ruin and celebrating its failures instead of addressing the people’s hardships. “The Sukhu government has reduced Himachal Pradesh to a state of devastation, and its so-called celebration is nothing but a farce,” said Chakshu. He alleged that over the past two years, the public had been deceived, employees had been oppressed and democracy had been undermined. He further alleged that Chief Minister Sukhu had prioritised personal gains, including securing a political position for his wife in Dehra, over public welfare.
Says even Congress leaders, workers disillusioned
Chakshu argued that the Sukhu government’s tenure had brought “misery to the common people, employees and even Congress leaders and workers, who were now disillusioned”. “While the Chief Minister laments the state’s poor financial condition, his government is squandering crores of rupees on meaningless celebrations,” he said.
The BJP leader also accused the Sukhu government of mishandling funds sent by the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He claimed that the funds, instead of being utilised for development, were being “wasted on extravagance”.
Alleges discontent among various sections
In a stinging remark, Chakshu stated, “In the past two years, the Sukhu government has caused more damage to the state than natural disasters.” He highlighted the discontent among various sections of society, including women, unemployed youth, farmers, employees and retired officials, who he said are all struggling under what he called a “failed and incompetent government.”
Chakshu accused the Congress government of gaining power by luring voters with promises of freebies and guarantees but failing to deliver on them. “Wherever the Congress comes to power, it drowns the state in debt. They promised free benefits but now claim there’s no money for development. Their lack of intent is evident,” he added.
Chakshu concluded by pointing out the growing debt burden on the state and the absence of any significant development projects. He asserted that the Sukhu government’s policies and decisions had left Himachal Pradesh in a precarious situation, with no tangible progress and a worsening financial crisis.
