Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu criticised the opposition BJP for its contradictory stance during the Vidhan Sabha session at Tapovan in Dharamshala.
Speaking to reporters, CM Sukhu said, “The opposition demanded a discussion and the ruling party agreed to it. Yet, it is ironic that while we are ready in the Assembly, the opposition is running away.”
Taking a jibe at the BJP, the CM said, “The Leader of the Opposition needs to decide whether to focus on himself or his chair. During the debate on corruption, they were conspicuously absent. Our government has shut the backdoors for corruption over the past two years.”
Alleges BJP facing ‘factionalism’, lacking facts
CM Sukhu pointed out internal discord within the BJP, alleging the party was divided into five factions. He referred to the controversy during former Health Minister Dr Rajeev Bindal’s tenure, citing alleged corruption in the procurement of PPE kits. “After the scandal, Dr Bindal was removed under internal political conspiracies, and today, he stands as the state president. Such infighting reflects the BJP’s lack of unity,” Sukhu said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the opposition’s “failure to provide concrete evidence during the corruption debate under Rule 67”. “The BJP spoke in vague terms, alleging purchases without substantiating claims. While they pointed fingers, we will present facts and take strict action against anyone found guilty of corruption,” Sukhu asserted.
Accuses BJP high command of pressuring MLAs
During the debate, CM Sukhu noted that only 14 of the BJP’s 28 MLAs were present. “In my political career, I have never seen the opposition in such disarray. If I address the Assembly tomorrow, all 28 might attend but will likely walk out before I reply,” he quipped.
The CM also accused the BJP high command of exerting undue pressure on its MLAs. Addressing Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur’s struggles, Sukhu said, “I understand the challenges he faces amidst the tussle for power within the BJP. Leadership battles often create desperation, and I’ve faced similar situations in my career.”
