MANDI: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Opposition leader Jai Ram Thakur has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda for allocating a relief fund of Rs 633.75 crore for those affected by the disaster.
Thakur urged the Congress government in the state to refrain from repeatedly “misleading” the public about relief efforts and focus on delivering aid to those affected.
Speaking to journalists at the Circuit House in Mandi, Thakur disclosed that the central government had disbursed two installments of Rs 362 crore and Rs 190 crore in view of the rain disaster. Subsequently, an additional Rs 200 crore was allocated under the NDRF, and Rs 2700 crore was released under the PMGSY.
Following a survey by a central team, an extra Rs 633.75 crores was being provided to the state, marking the most substantial economic assistance received.
On Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s foreign tour, Thakur said he too had organised an investor meet during his tenure as CM, despite opposition from the Congress. He said the true impact of the CM’s foreign tour on state investment would only be apparent upon his return.
The BJP leader criticised the government’s guarantee to purchase cow dung in January, questioning the Congress government’s ability to fulfill promises as the Lok Sabha elections were drawing near.
Thakur later met Jagruti Sharma, a resident of Mandi who won a cash prize on the TV show KBC. He congratulated her and offered he a shawl and cap.
