The selfie and video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni during the G7 summit in Italy have sparked a social media frenzy, garnering millions of views and reactions globally.
Captured by Meloni on Friday at the ongoing summit in Italy’s Apulia, the images show both leaders smiling warmly in a candid moment. The accompanying video captures them waving at the camera, with Meloni cheerfully greeting, “Hello from the Melodi team.”
The term “Melodi” gained viral popularity on social media following PM Modi and Meloni’s bilateral meeting last year. Meloni had initially shared the selfie of their encounter during the COP28 climate summit in Dubai, which also received widespread attention online.
“Good friends at COP28. #Melodi,” Meloni captioned the photograph back then. PM Modi’s current visit to Italy marks his first foreign trip after assuming office for the third consecutive term. Invited by Meloni, he is participating in the G7 Outreach summit, signifying a deepening of bilateral ties between India and Italy.
During their meeting on the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi and Meloni discussed various facets of the India-Italy strategic partnership. The Prime Minister’s Office highlighted that Meloni congratulated PM Modi on his re-election and extended warm wishes for his continued leadership.
In a tweet, PM Modi expressed gratitude to Meloni for the invitation and praised the successful organization of the summit. Their discussions covered enhancing collaboration in sectors such as commerce, energy, defense, telecom and more.
“The two leaders noted with satisfaction the regular higher political dialogue and reviewed progress of the India-Italy Strategic Partnership,” the PMO stated. They also emphasized the need to expand commercial ties, including in clean energy, manufacturing, Space, S&T, telecom, AI, and critical minerals, underpinned by recent agreements such as the MoU on Industrial Property Rights.
The interactions between PM Modi and Meloni have not only drawn attention on social media but have also underscored the growing bilateral cooperation between India and Italy, aiming to strengthen global partnerships and economic resilience.
The “Melodi” moments have resonated widely, symbolizing the amicable relationship and collaborative spirit between the two leaders and their nations on the international stage.
