The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a raid at the residence of senior BJP leader Nitisen Bhatia in Model Town, Panipat, amid the ongoing Haryana municipal elections.
The operation, which began early Thursday (February 13, 2025) morning, continued late into the night. No official details have been released regarding any recoveries made during the raid.
Former Karnal MP Sanjay Bhatia and Nitisen Bhatia, along with other family members, were reportedly present inside the house when the raid took place. Simultaneously, ED officials also carried out a search at Bhatia’s pharmaceutical company at Paonta Sahib in Simaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
According to sources, the investigation is linked to two cases: the sale of codeine-based syrup in Jammu and Kashmir, for which Nitisen Bhatia’s elder son, Neeraj Bhatia, was previously arrested, and allegations of illegal land purchases.
Officials have sought a report on the land transactions from the Deputy Commissioner of Sirmaur.
Eyewitnesses claim that ED teams arrived in Panipat around 6.30 am in three vehicles bearing registration plates from Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana. At the time, Nitisen Bhatia, his son Neeraj Bhatia and other family members were at home.
Upon arrival, the officials reportedly confiscated the mobile phones of all family members and household staff.
Sirmaur SP NS Negi said he had no information regarding the raid. Further details in the case are awaited.
