Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday (July 28, 2025) and apprised him of the extensive damage caused by recent cloudburst-triggered flash floods and landslides in his home constituency Seraj and other parts of Mandi district.

During the meeting, Jai Ram Thakur explained in detail the scale of devastation, highlighting that not only homes but also agricultural land had been washed away in the calamity, leaving many families with neither shelter nor land to rebuild on. He urged the Prime Minister to provide special relaxation under the Forest Conservation Act to help the affected people get land for constructing new homes.

The senior BJP leader further requested Prime Minister Modi to sanction an area-specific special relief package for rehabilitation and reconstruction in flood-ravaged areas. He stressed that the situation in Himachal required urgent attention and long-term planning due to the increasing frequency of natural disasters in recent years.

Jai Ram Thakur also appealed for a comprehensive scientific study to identify the root causes of recurrent disasters in the state, saying it was crucial to formulate preventive strategies and ensure sustainable development in the ecologically fragile region.

The Prime Minister, he said, took detailed feedback on the situation and assured full support from the Centre in the state’s recovery and rebuilding efforts. Jai Ram Thakur expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for the Union Government’s prompt assistance during rescue and relief operations and for his continued concern for the people of Himachal Pradesh.
