Shimla: Kiran Negi, the widow of the late Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) Chief Engineer Vimal Negi, has voiced concerns over the recent legal manoeuvres of IPS officer Sanjeev Gandhi, who is currently on medical leave.

In an interview with digital media platform ‘Samwad Bharat’, Kiran Negi questioned Sanjeev Gandhi’s decision to approach the Himachal Pradesh High Court while on leave, asking, “If he is on medical leave, why is he repeatedly moving the high court?”

Kiran Negi emphasised that her family had fully cooperated with the investigation, providing all necessary evidence, including laptops and other material. She expressed dissatisfaction with the progress made over the past two months, stating that the police had ample time and resources to conduct a thorough investigation.

Kiran Negi also alleged that Sanjeev Gandhi’s actions might be supported by undisclosed individuals, suggesting that such moves would be difficult without backing.
The case took a significant turn when the Himachal Pradesh High Court transferred the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on May 23, following a petition filed by Kiran Negi. The high court cited concerns over the impartiality of the special investigation team (SIT) led by Sanjeev Gandhi and noted serious lapses in the initial probe, including alleged mishandling of critical evidence.

In response, SP Sanjeev Gandhi filed a leave petition in his personal capacity, challenging the high court’s decision to transfer the case to the CBI. Sanjeev Gandhi has called for a court-monitored investigation, expressing doubts about the CBI’s impartiality. His actions have drawn criticism from various quarters, including Kiran Negi and her family, who view them as attempts to derail the investigation.

Surender Negi, Vimal Negi’s brother, echoed Kiran Negi’s concerns, emphasising the family’s desire for a transparent and unbiased investigation. He stressed the importance of focusing on uncovering the truth behind Vimal’s death rather than engaging in legal battles that could hinder the process.
