Dharamshala: Veteran journalist Kishori Lal, father of The Newz Radar correspondent Munish Sood, passed away late Monday (December 30, 2024) evening at his native place Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.
Kishori Lal had an illustrious career spanning nearly five decades. He was associated with The Tribune from 1961 to 2010, making significant contributions to the field of journalism.
After graduating in law in 1959 and acquiring a degree in journalism in 1960, he practised law alongside his journalistic endeavours. He soon transformed into a known social activist in Mandi, the town he lived in for most part of his life.
Kishori Lal had been keeping unwell for the past some time.
His influence extended beyond his own career, with some of his family members too foraying into journalism.
His younger brother, Ravinder Sood, is a senior journalist in Himachal Pradesh and is renowned for his efforts in fighting the mining and forest mafia. He resides in Palampur.
Munish Sood, the eldest of the two sons, has followed in his father’s footsteps, building a reputation for tackling social issues and holding officials and politicians accountable through his work.

His legacy of dedicated journalism and activism will undoubtedly be remembered for years to come,” said TNR Political Editor S Gopal Puri and Executive Editor Sunil Chadha in their condolence message.
