Under Congress Rule in Himachal, BJP Revs Up Grassroots Machinery with ‘Sakriya Karyakarta Sammelans’

Under Congress rule in Himachal, BJP revs up grassroots machinery with 'Sakriya Karyakarta Sammelans'

Shimla: While the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh remains mired in organizational reshuffles and post-election introspection, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a proactive route to strengthen its base by organizing a series of ‘Sakriya Karyakarta Sammelans’ across the state.

Held at district and block levels, these conventions are designed to re-energize the BJP cadre, boost morale, and prepare workers for future electoral battles, including upcoming panchayat and by-elections. The Sammelans have focused on sharpening booth-level strategies, improving communication, and reinforcing ideological clarity among the party’s grassroots members.

Senior BJP leaders, including former Chief Ministers, Members of Parliament, and central observers, addressed these gatherings. They emphasized the importance of discipline, structured outreach, and combating misinformation with facts. Leaders also reiterated the need to remain accessible to the public and to highlight governance issues under the current Congress regime, particularly concerning inflation, employment, and stalled infrastructure projects.

In contrast, the Congress party in the state appears to be grappling with internal instability. Following its poor performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) dissolved the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC), leaving a temporary leadership vacuum. While Congress leaders recently returned from the party’s convention in Gujarat, there has been limited on-ground mobilization or direction for workers within the state.

Political observers suggest that the BJP’s aggressive push at the grassroots, even from an opposition position, reflects a calculated move to occupy political space left unattended by Congress. The conventions are also being used to identify dynamic local leaders and promote an inclusive internal culture that values commitment and delivery over seniority.

The BJP’s strategy sends a clear message: the road to revival begins with the booth. By directly engaging with workers, recognizing their contributions, and offering them a role in shaping future campaigns, the party hopes to rejuvenate its cadre and regain lost ground.
