Two persons were k*illed and two others injured when the Alto car in which they were travelling rolled down into a deep gorge near the famous Shikari Devi Temple in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district late Tuesday night.
The accident took place near the temple area located at an altitude of around 11,000 feet. Since the spot was isolated and deserted, the incident initially went unnoticed.
According to police, one of the injured occupants managed to climb up from the gorge despite injuries and reached the roadside, where he alerted people staying in nearby tents and sought help. The information was later passed on to the Janjehli police station around 1 am.
A police team rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, launched a rescue operation and pulled out the victims from the gorge.
The deceased have been identified as Bhupender Raj and Het Ram, both residents of Thunag area in Mandi district. The injured, identified as Yog Raj and Puran Chand, were shifted to Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College for treatment.
SP Mandi Vinod Kumar confirmed the incident and said the cause of the accident was being investigated. The bodies would be handed over to the families after postmortem examination, he added.
