Dharamshala — In celebration of World Tourism Day, the Government College of Teacher Education, Dharamshala, hosted a vibrant “Traditional Cuisine Festival” under the aegis of its Youth Tourism Club, “Goonj.” The event was graced by Acting Principal Dr. Beena Chandrika Nair as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nair emphasized that tourism is not merely a source of leisure and recreation, but a powerful driver of economic growth, cultural exchange, and social development. She highlighted this year’s theme, “Tourism and Inclusive Transformation,” noting that tourism holds the potential to foster positive change across economic, environmental, and cultural spheres.

The festival featured ten teams presenting traditional dishes from all twelve districts of Himachal Pradesh. Culinary delights such as Chamba’s Madhra, Kangra’s Dal Pakode, Siddu, Kachori, Chana Chaat, Patande, and Coconut Chutney were served at beautifully curated stalls, drawing enthusiastic crowds. The dishes were offered at affordable prices, making the event both accessible and engaging.
A panel of judges comprising Prof. Yugraj Singh, Dr. Atul Acharya, and Dr. Atul Thakur awarded top honors to the “Mandayali Thali” team, followed by “Chamba Special Madhra” in second place, and Kangra’s “Dal Pakode” team securing third.

Concluding the event, Club Coordinator Prof. Babita Chambiyal extended heartfelt thanks to the chief guest, faculty members, and participating trainees. She reiterated that World Tourism Day reminds us that tourism is not just about travel—it is a pathway to peace, understanding, and sustainable development.
